Behavior Observation and Assessment
This course will introduce students to the science of behavior analysis. Students will be trained to observe and record human behaviors using various behavior coding systems to rate the frequency, intensity, and context of verbal and non verbal behaviors displayed primarily in videotaped interactions. Students will also be taught how to assess baseline, change, and patterns in an individual's behavioral repertoire using behavior coding of interpersonal communications styles, interrater reliability, coder drift, functional assessment, confirmation bias, and validity issues related to interpretations based on coder ratings of behavior. Prerequisite: PSY 180.
